Party Pretzels

These pretzels will change your life.  Big claim, I know, but they will!! They will be your new "go to" item to make for parties, showers, holidays, tailgating, you name it!  They are easy to make and one recipe makes 2 lbs of pretzels!

The first time I ever had these pretzels was at my sister and brother in laws wedding reception in Minnesota.  They got married in San Antonio, but he has a lot of family in Minnesota so they had an additional reception there.  My husband and I decided to fly out there and participate in the festivities.  It was July and it was hot... in fact, it was hotter in Minnesota when we were there than it was in Texas!!!  It was also very humid, so humid that the concrete in the outdoor pavillion where the reception was held was SWEATING!  I've never seen concrete sweat!  Despite all of that the reception was wonderful.  My brother in laws family had gone above and beyond making lots of delicious food for the occasion.  There was pulled pork and instead of a cake every lady brought her own special pan of "bars" to share.  And on every table there was a bucket of these pretzels, they had made pounds and pounds of them.  When we left his family was so kind to gift me a copy of their family cookbood that included this recipe along with many others.  I have a lot of cookbooks, but this one remains one of my favorites because it reminds me of that wonderful trip, the kind people that we met and it's a little piece of their home and heritage with so many special, old family recipes, so different from the things we make here in the south.

See those sneaky little hands?!?!

Over the years I've made these pretzels on numerous occasions for all different kinds of events and tweaked the recipe slightly.  Everytime I make them they leave people wanting more and there is always someone asking for the recipe or requesting them for the next get together.  I even made 4 batches last Christmas, packaged them up in tins and my husband gave them to his employees.  They are a great alternative to gifting sweets, especially for guys!

I hope that you enjoy these pretzels as much as my family and friends do!  Please let me know if you make them! [amd-zlrecipe-recipe:3]
